Article published on Phoslock Environmental Technologies move to commercialise Chinese wetland project
An article published at https://smallcaps.com.au/phoslock-environmental-technologies-commercialise-chinese-wetland-project/ summarises the successful application of Phoslock and other nutrient control measures to a Chinese canal. “Given the substantial need for water remediation in China, Phoslock launched its Beijing operations last year with a view of carrying out design, engineering, and implementation using remediation materials for rivers, canals, reservoirs and lakes along with construction of wetland areas”.
Water remediation of the canal was initiated by Phoslock Environmental Technologies (PET) in early 2018. At the time of application, the canal was chocked with green eutrophied water. Pollution was so bad that the canal was void of fish and the water emitted foul smells (Photo 1). Just 6 months later, the canal water has cleared, nutrients have been controlled and aquatic life is thriving (Photo 2). The local fishermen have even returned.
Work on a second wetland project in south Beijing has commenced. This project involves the movement of over 60,000 tons of materials via rail and over 2,000 truck movements to the site. As with the first wetland project, this is a huge logistical and project management exercise.
This new wetland project has a value of ~ $7m and is expected to be completed by November 2018. Work continues on the Beijing canals, using a combination of Phoslock, zeolites and bacterial agents to improve and maintain the water quality.
