Largest European Lake application of Phoslock
Phoslock Environmental Technologies (ASX: PET) has won a tender valued at more than $1.3 Million to treat Lake Goldap in North Western Poland. The contract was signed in late November and treatment is now underway.
The lake, which has a surface area of more than 130 ha, is being treated with 300 tonnes of Phoslock in two stages – winter 2017 and spring 2018.
An unusual element of this application is that the lake covers two countries – Poland and the Russian Federation, with the international border transecting the northern part of the lake. Approximately three-quarters of the lake is in Poland and one quarter is in Russia.
The Russian part of the lake is located downstream from the Polish area and, while only Polish territory is being treated, consent has been obtained from the Russian authorities who will naturally also benefit. Goldap is located in a remote area of Poland and attracts thousands of tourists each year.
The project is funded by the European Union and the local municipality and is the largest application of Phoslock in Europe to date.
