Second Application of Phoslock Being Completed in Poland This Week

The treatment of Lake Goldap in North Eastern Poland with 300 tonnes of Phoslock will be completed this week.

The $1.3 million project commenced in December 2017 when half the product was applied, the second half of the application commenced last week and is expected to be completed by the end of this week. The contract to treat the lake was signed in late November and the project is being funded jointly by the EU and the Goldap City Council.

Three quarters of the 130 ha lake is located in Poland and onequarter in the Russian Federation, making the project the first application of Phoslock to a lake with an international border. Although only the Polish part of the lake is being treated, consent has been obtained from the Russian authorities for the treatment. The Russian part of the lake is located downstream from the Polish area.

The project is the largest application of Phoslock in Europe to date and has drawn considerable interest from both the media and other municipalities in the Mazurian lake district of Poland.

Managing Director Robert Schuitema commented: “This ongoing application is further evidence of the growing strength of the Phoslock brand in Europe and the UK. We have now conducted over 70 applications in 10 countries in Europe, with a number of further projects in various stages across the European Union”.
